Passport: Standard and necessary Bike Registration: Make sure this is in order as it is needed every time you cross borders. If you buy the bike in the US make sure you get the full ownership papers ( not just the temporary one) and arrange to get them sent to you later, especially if you want to sell the bike. International Divers Licence: We have one but have not needed to use it yet Country Drivers Licence:: Necessary Carnet: We do not have one and not necessary to present, and hopefully not necessary to get into Ecuador

	Maps: Buying maps on route tends to be a little difficult so it is best to purchase them before you leave. The more detailed the more off road and interesting tracks you can take. Guidebooks are good sources of maps for town and cities. Of the two we have Lets Go, and Lonely Planet, the best by far for a map resource and generally (including thinner pages)is the Lonely Planet.

US - Mexico	Crossing town: Crossed the boarder at Tijuana but only need to do paperwork for the crossing from La Paz to Mazatlan Cost: Tourist card: , Bike Temporary Importation: (to be paid by credit card) Time: About 45 minutes at the office at the port, but included a lot of time and hassle to get the appropriate papers Notes: If you cross at Tiawana you do not pass any Mexican customs so you have to go to a tourist information booth to collect a tourist card, then go to the bank and pay money to validate it, then immigration to get it stamped. You will need all of this before you can get your temporary importation paper to the mainland from the Baja
Mexico-Belize	Crossing town: Crossed the border near Chetumal Cost: Exit Mexico - nothing, Entry Belize - nothing Time: About 30 minutes Notes: We forgot to get our temporary importation documents released at the Mexican side of the border - you have to look a bit harder this. We cancelled our credit card we used for the importation to prevent being charged.

Honduras - Nicaragua	Crossing town: Crossed the border near Las Manos Cost: Exit Honduras - nothing; Entry Nicaragua - Migration: $4 USD, Bike Papers: $10USD, Tip :$2 USD Time: About 2 hours - but waited 1 hour over lunch Notes: A official looking blocked helped us and ran around going to correct people so we tipped his $2, didn't know if we needed to. This was the 1st time we have had anyone help us, really not necessary anywhere.
Nicaragua - Costa Rica	Crossing town: Crossed the border near Penas Blancas Cost: Exit Nicaragua - Tourists exit $2 USD, Bike exits $4 USD ; Entry Costa Rica - Migration: nothing, Bike Papers: $10USD Time: About 90 minutes - but waited 1 hour over lunch Notes: At the border people tried to sell there services to get us through the border, didn't use any and wasn't necessary as very self explanatory
Costa Rica - Panama	Crossing town: Crossed the border near Paso Canoas Cost: Exit Costa Rica - nothing ; Entry Panama - Migration: $5 USD, Bike Papers: $4USD, Fumigation $1 USD (receipt paperwork but no actual fumigation) Time: About 45 minutes Notes: They check your paper about 1 km down the road into Panama
