Memorable moment

Memorable moment.

Then there were two.

Not all moments on a trip are enjoyable, and this week produced one of the lows. Jamie received some unpredicted news from home that put everyone's head into a spin. The result was the relocation from Isla Mujeres (to tell you the truth, they were getting a little too much for us anyway) to Cancun, canvassing flight options to Australia and the departure of Jamie on New Year's Eve.

We will miss the extra time between beer shouts but wish everyone concerned back in Oz all the best.

Original Week 9 account
Quote of the week

"If you fall off it, I don't want to know about it" - Jamie after giving his keys to Boxy

"Come inside and see pictures of my sister" - old bloke trying to tempt us into his store

"I had to spit into my regulator" - Marty's recollection of his 1st open water dive after an eventful previous evening

"Hands on the car, boys" - Cancun police decide to search Marty and Jamie on the way home from the pub

Competition

Who could open the hostel door fastest with a credit card after the loss of the key?

Winner: hotel curator, who obviously has had to adapt after the absence of any spare keys.

Highlight

Boxy's sudden upgrade from a thrashed-out XR650L to a near-new, polished-up KTM LC4 640

Risk activity

Not selling the motorbike and being stuck in Cancun for a week.Risk factor4/10.

Lowlight

Receiving news of unfortunate circumstances back home, which saw Jamie leave the Goneriden crew on New Year's Eve.

Road tally

After contemplating a 400 m walk home on New Year's Eve, Boxy decided a 3 ½-hour bus ride, asleep on the back seat, was in order.

Result: smack under the ear from the bus driver, $10 USD cab fare home, $100 peso fine for losing the hostel key.
